INTERNET
SAFETY
Parents:
We have received phone
calls and visits from concerned parents about student use of the Internet. Some of these discussions have centered on
underage use, threats, predators, and cyberbullying. Obviously the anonymity afforded by the “Net”
makes it a potentially dangerous for all of our students.
We strongly suggest that
parents monitor their child’s usage of the Internet and arm themselves with
information about Internet Safety. Here
are some sites that may help parents:
For Parents whose students are using MySpace.com:
Parents can contact
MySpace with questions and concerns by clicking on "Contact MySpace",
located at the bottom of every page on MySpace.com and follow the
directions. Click on Parent Safety Tips,
at the bottom of every page. MySpace
also provides parents with instructions detailing how to remove their teen's
profile from MySpace.com and links to free software that enables parents to
monitor or block their teen's use of the Internet, including blocking
MySpace.com.
My Space is limited to
students 14 years of age or older. My
Space suggests that “If there is an emergency situation involving
cyberbullying in which you feel the safety of a student is in danger, please
contact your local law enforcement agency immediately.”
